LHSC Student Experience Fund

Give to the Student Experience Fund!

Students graduate from The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University prepared for success in an ever-changing, global media environment. Study abroad programs, research projects, internships, student organizations, academic conferences, and professional events are all an essential part of the student experience at Hofstra.  However, the cost to participate in many of these activities is often in addition to a student’s tuition.

About the Fund

The Herbert School established the Student Experience Fund to ensure that deserving students can participate in the full School of Communication experience, regardless of their financial situation. Donors to the fund make it possible for students to pursue a variety of activities which foster personal and professional development.

Where does my donation go?

Every gift to the Student Experience Fund has a meaningful and direct impact on the lives of Hofstra students.

CONNECT

Gifts at this level could help students connect with professionals in their intended fields.  Attending industry conferences, internships, and other experiential activities in New York City provides students with many opportunities to transfer the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to workplace settings and build their professional networks.  GIVE TODAY

COLLABORATE

Activities that allow students to collaborate with their peers could be supported with gifts at this level.  Organizations like HEAT, HFC, The Hofstra Chronicle, PRSSA, WRHU, and others enable students to sharpen their leadership skills, gain hands-on experience, and build a community of peers.  Funding could help purchase equipment and supplies, bring guest speakers to campus, host special events, and provide financial support for other student-led initiatives. GIVE TODAY

EXPERIMENT

Donations at this level could help students experiment with new methods of storytelling and express themselves creatively.  Activities like senior projects are the culmination of years of study and practice. The fund could help students offset costs associated with producing their work, as well as with submitting their projects to film festivals and other contests after graduation. GIVE TODAY

IMMERSE

The Student Experience fund could help students immerse themselves in industry-related activities throughout the United States. The types of programs the fund might support include LHSC students participating in a variety of activities, including the Hofstra in LA, the Telluride Film Festival Student Symposium, Carnegie-Knight News21 Fellowship, Campus MovieFest, the Eastern Communication Association Conference and more. GIVE TODAY

DISCOVER

The student experience fund could help provide opportunities for students to discover dimensions of the global media industry. Programs students currently participate in include the school’s signature Sco in Rome! program, communication courses in Cuba, Venice, and Ireland, as well as an Honors Seminar in Barcelona, Paris, and Amsterdam. Herbert School students have also participated in workshop programs abroad, such as the Cannes Film & Business and Cannes Creative Minds programs. GIVE TODAY
