Our world is increasingly interconnected and filled with challenges. For engineering students, that means there are exciting opportunities to put their technical expertise to use in solving the problems that affect the daily lives of our global citizens. You can be a part of this wonderful learning experience by supporting our students as they join with Engineers in Action (EIA) bringing their skills and talents to the people of Bolivia.
Today there are over 1 billion people who do not have access to basic human needs such as water, food, healthcare, and education. We are fortunate to have most of these needs fulfilled without any encumbrance. However, for some people, access to these basic needs is a daily challenge affecting their very existence. As part of the EIA Bridge Project, this program offers Hofstra students the opportunity to solve this problem. Through this real-world project, students learn not only the technical skills that will support this design and build effort but the cultural literacy needed to work with communities abroad, non-governmental organizations, and university partners to become tomorrow’s global leaders.
Through the generosity of a special donor, students recently traveled to Denver, Colorado to participate in the EIA Bridge Builder Conference. The conference was a 3-day gathering of past, current, and future bridge builders participating in the EIA Bridge Program. Hofstra students engaged with their peers and EIA leaders in collaborative workshops, hands-on construction seminars, and much more to prepare them for their project in Bolivia.
The DeMatteis School is currently ranked in the top 16% of non-PhD granting engineering schools by US News World Report. The school is distinguished by offering hands-on research experience in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, valuable pre-professional, on-the-job experience, and collaborative relationships with professors who are leaders in their fields. The EIA Bridge program is a premier program designed to prepare a select group of students for careers with a global perspective. These select students value worldwide diversity and seek to promote the well-being of others through engineering solutions.
We invite you to join us in supporting the EIA Bridge Program with a contribution to this effort. Your support will enable Hofstra engineering students to fulfill their dreams of solving problems for the world!
