Help Hofstra Law Students Assist Veterans

Veterans Legal Assistance Project (VLAP)

The Veterans Legal Assistance Project (VLAP) was developed in 2013 by students in the Veterans Law Student Association, including students who served in the military, who wanted to provide military veterans with legal services. Each semester, the students host a one-day legal clinic, which is open to all veterans and offers a free consultation with attorneys who specialize in VA benefits and claims, family law, Social Security disability, employment, USERRA, housing, bankruptcy, debtor/creditor matters, landlord-tenant disputes, elder law, tax, wills, estates, Medicare and Medicaid, and more.

To date, the project has provided more than 350 military veterans with free legal services. The Veterans Legal Clinic was also featured in Newsday.

"It has been a true honor and privilege to participate in the Veterans Legal Assistance Project (VLAP) the last three years. The clinic has been able to assist numerous veterans in receiving aid and legal advice related not only to their service but to other areas of their lives (wills, estates, family, matrimonial, etc.).  It has also allowed both law students and private attorneys to work together, learn from one another, and come up with solutions together on behalf of veterans." — Shelby Grynberg 3L

“It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my law school career to be able to give back to veterans who have given so much to us.” — Liza Trazzera 2L

"Being a part of the Veterans Legal Assistance Project has added such a valuable experience to my law school attendance, and I am extremely pleased that we are able to help the veterans who are in need of legal assistance." — Karen Eng 3L
